Funzendo is a place in Guanghuasi temple, providing training, stay, retreat, zen meditation program. Funzendo has rich experience teachers from Guanghuasi Temple, located in Luoyang City.
Guanghuasi, also called Guanghuasi Temple, Longmen Guanghuasi Temple, is is located on a hill in the west of Longmen Village and was built in the Northern Wei Dynasty. There are 199 large stone steps in front of the temple. All the buildings in the temple are imitating the Qing Dynasty, with blue tiles and red bricks. There are mainly Shanmen, Tianwang Hall, Jialan Hall, Sanzang Hall, Kizang Hall, etc., which are antique. In the temple, there is the Fearless Zen Master Pagoda, which was erected to commemorate Shan Wuwei, a monk from Tianzhu who came to China to spread Buddhism during the Tang Dynasty.
Guanghua Temple was first built in the first year of Qianyuan (758) during the reign of Emperor Suzong of the Tang Dynasty. It was originally the pagoda of Shanwuwei, an Indian monk. Shanwuwei was one of the "Three Great Masters of Kaiyuan" in the Tang Dynasty. Together with Vajrabodhi and Amoghavajra, he laid the foundation of Chinese Esoteric Buddhism (Tang Esoteric Buddhism). He translated Buddhist scriptures and preached Buddhism in Luoyang. After his death, his real body was enshrined in Guanghua Temple, becoming a holy site revered by Chinese and Japanese Esoteric Buddhists.
Learn MoreGuanghua Temple on the West Hill of Longmen is one of the ancestral temples of Tangmi (also known as Esoteric Buddhism, Yoga Sect, i.e. Yoga Esoteric Buddhism). After the death of Shanwuwei, one of the "Three Great Masters of Kaiyuan", his real body was enshrined here. Monks in Luoyang throughout the ages have been honored to be buried in Guanghua Temple and to accompany Master Shanwuwei.
