Venerable Rujing (Shi Rujing) is a Buddhist nun and resident teacher at Guanghua Temple, dedicated to sharing the wisdom of Buddhist teachings and making classical Dharma studies accessible to modern practitioners. With a strong academic foundation and years of contemplative study, she guides students to explore the deeper meanings behind Buddhist philosophy and scriptures.
Venerable Rujing graduated from the Buddhist Academy of China, where she specialized in Yogācāra (Consciousness-Only) philosophy and Madhyamaka (Middle Way) teachings. She has conducted in-depth studies of important Buddhist texts, including the Heart Sutra, Diamond Sutra, and Platform Sutra, developing a comprehensive understanding of Buddhist wisdom and its relevance to daily life. She also spent six months studying at a Shingon Buddhist practice center on Mount Koya in Japan, exploring the historical development and cultural transmission of Tang Esoteric Buddhism after its introduction to Japan.
Since becoming a resident teacher at Guanghua Temple in 2017, Venerable Rujing has been responsible for foundational Dharma courses and sutra guidance programs. Her teaching focuses on Buddhist scriptures, fundamental Buddhist principles, and the history and cultural significance of Tang Esoteric Buddhism.
Known for her insightful and engaging teaching style, Venerable Rujing combines profound knowledge with warmth and humor. Rather than presenting Buddhist philosophy as distant or difficult, she uses vivid stories and everyday examples to help students understand complex concepts and discover their practical meaning in modern life. Many students describe attending her lectures as “listening to fascinating stories while gaining profound wisdom.”
Through courses such as Buddhist Foundations: Ten Essential Lessons and The Heart Sutra: Wisdom for Daily Life, Venerable Rujing welcomes learners from diverse backgrounds to explore Buddhist philosophy with curiosity, openness, and joy.
